Product Description : This DVD set has the famous child star Jackie Cooper playing the title role of Jimmy, a newsboy-by-day/law student-by-night. Because he wants to pattern his life after the famous president, he has been given the nickname "Abe Lincoln of Ninth Avenue." Experience this classic drama, one of the true classics of the genre. As a pug-nosed blond with pouting mouth and the ability to shed tears in buckets, Jackie Cooper was one of Hollywood's top child stars in the 1930s. Like most child stars, Cooper found his popularity waning as he reached adolescence, and weathered a turbulent period in his personal life while looking for a new direction in his professional life. He and Shirley Temple were the first child stars of the Talky Era. American audiences during the Depression cried and laughed at his antics in a succession of mostly tearjerkers. Until 13 year-old Keshia Castle-Hughes was nominated for Best Actress in 2004 he was the only actor to earn a Best Actor/Actress nomination for an Academy Award before their 18th birthday. He made a more successful comeback on television. He also did some directing. Many recognize him for his last movie role as editor Perry White in the Superman series of films.
