Affairs of Cappy Ricks (1937) DVD: Affairs of Cappy Ricks 1937 DVD |
| Product Description : In a career spanning 26 years, Ralph Staub directed 132 movies. Affairs of Cappy Ricks was his 25th movie as director, and is a humorous story of an old seadog who wants to teach his daughters a lesson or two about life. This movie from the ?30s has an unusual plot - a father marooning his young daughters on a lonely, uninhabited Pacific island just to put some sense into their pretty heads! The portrayal of the daughters is done with a lot of sensitivity and is quite realistic. Their refusal to marry the chaps they were originally engaged to is quite characteristic of young girls who are easily swayed by glamour and riches. The family?s sojourn on the island is filled with humorous episodes and some emotional moments when Matt Peasley and Will Peck try to win back their ladyloves. The role of an old sea dog seems to have been written with Walter Brennon in mind, and he carries his part as captain and domineering patriarch pretty well. Georgia Caine?s portrayal of a protective and dominating parent has a true-life quality about it and also generates a few laughs. Sometimes emotional and sometimes humorous, the movie keeps you engrossed throughout its viewing. The scenes showing the sailboat "Gloria Ricks" riding the waves proudly is evidence of the outstanding abilities of Ralph Staub as a director. Don?t miss this hilariously philosophical movie, which will keep you fascinated and amused till the end! |
