Last Woman on Earth (1960) DVD: Last Woman on Earth 1960 DVD |
| Product Description : This 1960 science fiction movie was produced and directed by Roger Corman, a leading producer of low-budget science fiction movies in the late 50s and early 60s. It tells the story of how two men, survivors of a global holocaust, struggle for the attention of the only surviving woman. This fascinating low budget, science fiction movie was produced by Roger Corman while on a holiday in Puerto Rico. The plot centers on the destruction of the world by a nuclear device and the survival of a trio because they happen to be scuba diving when the explosion occurs. Antony Carbone?s portrayal of a carefree gambler is realistic and his depiction of a suspicious, possessive and jealous husband in the latter part of the movie too is convincing. Betsy Jones Moreland uses her charm to good effect throughout the narrative and Robert Towne, who also wrote the screenplay, plays an excellent supporting role. Roger Corman captures the emotional interplay between the three characters, extremely well. The build-up of jealousy between the two men is portrayed beautifully. The selection of locations - especially the one for the final scenes - is excellent and shows Corman?s insightfulness as director. The view of several boats bobbing up and down on the deserted waterfront creates a feeling of utter desolation. Witness this thrilling drama which has you guessing about who will win the hand of the last woman on earth till the end! |
