Historical World Fairs: New York - Vol. 2 (2-DVDs): Historical World Fairs New York Vol 2 2DVDs |
| Product Description : The General Motors Exhibition "Futurama" at the 1939 New York World's Fair typified the vision and dreams of people struggling to shrug off the effects of a long economic struggle. The skyscrapers, elevated pedestrian ways and highways that could carry traffic at a mind- boggling 100 miles per hour were, fascinatingly, GM's vision of the country in 'far away' 1960. I am tempted to think that the fair derived its' name "World Of Tomorrow", from such themes. This set of DVDs provides a comprehensive overview of the attractions and exhibits at the Fair. Learn about what was trendy (lots of people wearing similarly styled clothes) and what was modern (the electric section and industrial buildings). Learn about what made the fair an international event (participation by Russians and Belgians) and what was intriguing (Babe Ruth's footprints cast in cement and Hollywood star Jane Wither's visit to the fair). Capture the atmosphere of the fair as the camera records images of just about everything at the exposition - lots of people, buildings, murals, gardens and fountains. You will catch a glimpse of the symbolic Trylone Perisphere, and the Schaefer Center. The focus of these DVDs is more on information and less on entertainment. |
