Historical World Fairs: New York - Vol. I (2-DVDs): Historical World Fairs New York Vol I 2DVDs |
| Product Description : The New York World's Fair of 1939 was named "The World of Tomorrow" and these DVDs helped me to understand why. The exposition was a fitting tribute to the admirable vision and foresight of the people of post-depression New York. Beautiful photography makes up for the lack of narration. An eye for detail is also evident in some of clips. The DVDs take you on a whirlwind tour of the fair. Clips featuring amusement rides, magic shows, Hollywood doubles, zoological wonders, swimming shows, dancers and a host of other sideshows held my mind captive for quite a while. One of the displays that caught my eye was Salvador Dali's "Dreams of Venus" walk-through funhouse. There is a marvelous footage of a parachute drop and the famous Glen Gary Band. Judicious selection of films makes this set of DVDs both thematic and entertaining. |
